SHORT FORM DIGITAL

Mr Cutts’ chop shop is a six-part digital series that makes the ‘Remix’ process something we can all finally be part of. Bridging the gap between live music fans, production nerds and new music nuts – Mr Cutts Chop Shop is a peek behind the music making curtain. Starting out as an Instagram series, videos shot between recording sessions by producer Owen Cutts shared his remix process. Beats created on the spot twinned with chopped up samples delivered a wholly original song in minutes. Developing organically, these beat making videos began to feature live vocalists and took on a whole new life. Receiving incredible reaction and engagement, the ‘Chop Shop’ quickly became a room artists would ask to be a part of.

Standing firmly on the shoulders of ‘Colours Berlin’ and the wildly successful ‘Tiny Desk’ sessions, watching artists perform online isn’t new. What hasn’t been popularised is the process behind making the record. Doing so with beautiful visuals is rare, as this kind of content is usually unproduced and shot poorly. Elevating the creation process is long overdue as these ‘lightening in a bottle’ studio moments are neglected and rarely documented. Bouncing between insight and execution is the lane ‘Chop Shop’ owns.  Seeing your favourite songs re-worked, while getting an insight into the record itself by the artist is a fresh take on short form performance we’ve become familiar with. Jumping from ideation to creation bolstered with short interviews, Chop Shop aims to share the buzz of making through producer Owen Cutts and his chosen guest that episode.
